Good afternoon, dear readers! I've noticed that orange has been all the rage lately when it comes to makeup, and I was excited to see MAC's newly released All About Orange collection. I was quite surprised they didn't have an orange eyeshadow palette! Fellow blogger and friend Jess of Love for Lacquer swatched and reviewed most of the collection here if you want to check it out. The collection does include an eyeshadow quad in grey shades that is not included in her post. Now to my post...
I know not everyone loves orange, and if you're like me, you might get a little squeamish at the idea of trying out the open tester pots at makeup counters. If you're on the fence about orange and don't want to spend a large chunk of change to try out the trend, check out the Brown Eyed Girl 9-shadow palette by Jesse's Girl Cosmetics. This palette was released a couple years ago and covers a small range of shades from a golden lighter orange to a medium brick red. At a whopping $3.99 a piece, you can try a variety of shades and not break the bank if you decide orange just isn't for you. Check out the colours in this 9-pan palette!
Lots of shimmers to choose from!
As you can see, the first two colours in this pan aren't as bright against my tanned skin tone, but they're nice colours for adding some highlighting in my eye makeup.
This is a pretty good palette with a nice variety of colours. The colours aren't as densely pigmented as a few other brands on the market, but for the price, you really can't beat it. The shadows apply reasonably well, even if they do tend to lean a little on the powdery side so you do have to beware of fallout during application. All of the eyeshadows are shimmery, so you probably will need to include a matte eyeshadow during your application. I find wearing just shimmery eyeshadows look a little silly on me now that I am in my 30's, but I do love a little bit of shimmer on my eyes! Overall, I think this is a great and affordable palette to try out a variety of orange shades.
Brown Eyed Girl and other Jesse's Girl Cosmetics can be purchased at Rite Aid or on the Jesse's Girl Cosmetics website. If you don't have a Rite Aid near you- I don't either :( - you will be happy to hear that shipping is free for orders over $20 on the Jesse's Girl website!
What do you think about the current orange trend? Do you love it, hate it, or are you still trying to decide? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! :)
