Happy hump day, dear readers! I don't know about you, but my schedule is all messed up due to the 3 day weekend! While it was business as usual for me on the blog front, the normal Monday routine was thrown out the window. Between that and posting on Sunday, something I rarely do, I'm really having a hard time keeping track! At least I have a beautiful lipstick to share with you today! In the end, that's all that really matters at this exact moment. Let's jump on in to today's post!
I had mentioned the ECRU New York Velvet Air Lipsticks on my blog recently as one of my top beauty finds from Cosmoprof North America (CPNA) this summer, and I brought one of them home with me to test out. While this particular shade, Brick City, was reported by ECRU to be one of the summer "it" colours, I actually prefer orange-leaning reds over the fall instead of summer so I've been waiting to share this beauty until after Labor Day. Let's get a closer look at the stunning shade!
Brick City is such an exquisite shade that reminds me of the vibrant hues in the sunset and the colour of falling leaves in autumn. It's no wonder I am drawn towards this colour when the days get shorter and cooler! The Velvet Air Lipstick line in an intriguing product with chameleon texture that varies by application due to the carefully crafted blend of oils and powders. When applied directly to the lips with the lipstick bullet, the oils and pigments deliver a moisturizing satin effect on the lips. When the Velvet Air Lipsticks are blended onto your lips with your fingertips, the powdery texture hugs the lips for a solid matte lip.
I tested out the claims on the back of my hand, and I have mixed feelings about the results. While there was a matte effect on my skin, I ended up with just a light wash of colour on my hand and the oils and a substantial bit of colour on my blending finger. While the idea of going from satin to matte certainly is fascinating, I was hoping this product could transform in texture while still keeping the colour payout from the lipstick bullet.
While the satin to matte transition left me wanting more, there is no doubt this is a beautiful lipstick colour. This is Brick City applied directly to my lips with two coats of colour/swipes with the lipstick bullet. It applied so smoothly to my lips and felt so comfortable for several hours of wear before needing touching up in the inner areas of my lips. It is not kiss proof, so beware kissing your significant other/kids/puppy noses! You will easily be identified as the culprit who snuck a bite of your partner's reuben sandwich, for future reference.
In addition to a gorgeous colour, I adore the packaging of the Velvet Air Lipsticks! The lipstick bullet is contained within a matte black finished rectangular parallelepiped (basically a rectangle in 3D) with ECRU New York in a shiny print. This alone was a brilliant look for a product that can be applied with both matte and satin velvet finishes! What I particularly love about the packaging is the magnets contained within the packaging, snapping the lid into place and keeping it secure. If you've ever had a tube of lipstick open in your purse and get over EVERYTHING, or even if you have not, you can certainly appreciate this feature. It adds a nice touch that makes you feel like you are holding a high end product.
In addition to Brick City, there are ten shades of Velvet Air Lipsticks available for purchase. Whether you choose to wear them with a matte wash of colour, go bold with the satin finish, or mix and match the lipsticks as you go, you certainly will be able to create a vast array of looks that can take you from day to night!
Brick City and other shades from the Velvet Air Lipstick line are available for purchase at ECRU New York here. They retail for $24 each.
Have you tried any products from ECRU New York before? If so, what was your favorite? Do you prefer lips with a subtle wash of colour, or do you prefer them bold? I'd love to hear from you!
Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
